I seem to have the 'v' consistently:
 tar zvft sslh-v1.16.tar.gz 
 drwxr-xr-x yves/yves         0 2014-07-15 11:34 sslh-v1.16/

 -rw-r--r-- yves/yves      2458 2014-02-11 22:06 sslh-v1.16/Makefile
 [...]

The 'v' comes from the git tags, which I think I'd rather
not change as they are consistent.
